BURN Fitness Studios is a boutique studio founded and owned by Jonathan Cruz, a Dartmouth Medical School graduate. After retiring from a career in the biomedical field, Jonathan refocused on his love for fitness and motivating others and in 2014 founded BURN Fitness Studios.

Location

The BURN Back Bay center is located directly above the Back Bay Social Club, across the street from Eataly. In the area is Northeastern University, the John F. Kennedy Presidential Library and the Boston Childrens’ Museum.

Services/Classes Offered

Groups and classes offered at Back Bay include:

  • Power BURN – considered one of Back Bay’s signature classes. Focusing on strengthening, pyramid interval sets, core work, toning and sculpting, this class will speed up your metabolism and keep it burning fat hours after the class.
  • Cardio Pilates – combination of the body lengthening and strengthening of Pilates with cardio.
  • Strong Tabata – focusing on strength rather than cardio; high-intensity training.
  • Tabata BURN –  using the well-known Tabata protocol of 20 second bouts of high level interval training followed by 10 seconds of rest.
  • TRX Tabata – suspension training intervals combined with ground based cardio and strength drills.
  • Pounds & Watts – floor-based strength and cardio exercises with intervals of bikes and sprints. Use free weights and track your output, using the latest Schwinn indoor cycling technology.
  • Happy Hour Yoga – using vinyasa voga, work on improving your balance, flexibility, agility and coordination. Enjoy more upbeat music than what you move to in traditional yoga classes!
  • Vinyasa Yoga – joint stability exercises as described above in Happy Hour Yoga
  • Broga – this class combines vinyasa yoga moves with body-weight movements and high intensity interval training. Offers core-strengthening, cardio, muscle toning yoga postures that help with stress reduction and enhanced clarity.

BURN Fitness – Back Bay location has a 4.5 rating on Yelp with positive comments on the friendliness and knowledge of the staff, good variety in workout routines, the Tabata BURN classes (taught by Jonathan Cruz) and ease of signing up for classes and navigating their website. Negative comments included the length of classes (reviewers wanted longer sessions), and the smaller size of the studio.
